CASH and a mobile phone were stolen by burglars who called at a house in Fratton.

The incident happened some time between 6pm and 8pm, on Tuesday, January 8.

A 19-year-old man answered the door to his Walmer Road home when two men claimed they were from an electricity company and needed to check the meter and lights. The men were carrying clipboards and had badges clipped to their coats. One man was wearing a woolly hat and the other was wearing a black coat.

The man let the men into the property, without asking for identification. One man checked the meter, while the other man asked to be shown the lights upstairs. At this time, the man checking the meter was left downstairs alone.

The man’s partner returned home and realised that £100 was missing from her purse. The man also noticed his Blackberry mobile phone was missing.

DC Les Leithes, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘Police would like to hear from anyone who has had similar callers to their address, or anyone who may have seen the men in the area on Tuesday.’

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Les Leithes at Fratton CID on 101. Alternatively, call the anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
