HUNDREDS of drivers have been caught speeding along one of the area’s busiest roads during a two-hour sting.

Police say 352 drivers were caught breaking the 70mph speed limit along the A27 at Chichester.

About 20 motorists exceeded 100mph.

The drivers were caught out by a mobile speed camera set up in several locations by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership on Sunday.

The motorists caught slightly over the limit may be offered a speed awareness course as an alternative to receiving points on their licence.

The courses are offered to those who are unlikely to be habitual offenders.

Those severely breaking the speed limit will be dealt with through the courts.

Police say they may find themselves with points on their licence and a fine as a result of their actions.

The speed enforcement vehicle was stationed at Newells Lane Bridge, West Ashling, Salthill Road Bridge, Chichester and Aldingbourne straight and Binsted in Fontwell.
