POLICE have launched an investigation after a schoolboy was seriously injured in a hit and run.

The eight-year-old was struck by the car in Eastbourne Avenue, Gosport, at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Inspector Phil Hunt, from Fratton Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘The collision happened near the junction with Worthing Avenue.

‘The child sustained serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

‘Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. But we would particularly like to speak to the driver of the car involved which we believe travelled on towards Brockhurst Road following the collision.’

The boy was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
