A MAN has been kidnapped and assaulted by a group of men in Gosport.

The 38-year-old was bundled into a van on Forton Road on Saturday at around 7.30pm, in what police are describing as a ‘targeted attack.’

He was then driven to an unknown location and kept in the van overnight.

The kidnappers then drove him to the Cambridge Road area of Gosport, took him out of the van on Sunday at 8.30am, and assaulted him.

He suffered an injury to his face and was later treated at hospital. The man was also robbed of £50 in cash.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Gary Towse, said: ‘The exact motive for the crime is not known at the moment, but all the information we have so far shows this was a targeted attack on this man.

‘I’d like to reassure the community that there is no evidence to suggest a wider risk to the general public.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of Forton Road in Gosport between Russell Street and Ann’s Hill Road at around 7.30pm to 8.15pm on Saturday or anybody who was in the Cambridge Road area of Gosport on Sunday.

‘CID is seeking witnesses to suspicious activity, particularly anyone who noticed a van and several men.’
