AN INVESTIGATION to find the people who strung a metal wire across a footpath and hurt a little girl has been closed, police have confirmed.

Six year-old Lilly Bailey-Deacon was cycling along a footpath in Bellfield Play Area in Titchfield Common on Thursday, August 14 when she rode into the wire and hurt her throat.

Lilly’s grandfather Colin Deacon, of Wheatlands, Titchfield Common, was furious about the incident and reported it to police.

An investigation was launched and an appeal was put out for witnesses, particularly for two teenage boys who had been seen on their mobile phones nearby, immediately before the incident.

Mr Deacon, 50, said: ‘We have tried everything, I’ve even been out there myself.’

Police confirmed that nobody had come forward and they closed the investigation.

Lilly, who lives in Portchester, has now recovered.
