POLICE say two teenagers were spotted near a store moments before it was raided in the early hours of the morning.
An eye-witness recalls seeing the young men – aged possibly about 15 to 17 years old – sitting on a bench outside the Co-op in Privett Road, Gosport.
As reported yesterday, thieves forced open the sliding front door to the shop between 2am and 3.20am on Wednesday. They then broke the lock on the cigarette kiosk behind the counter and stole cigarettes.
The crooks also tried to break into the store’s cash machine and force open a safe in the back of the shop. Cash was stolen but it is not yet known how much.
Det Con Jason Mann said: ‘There is every chance somebody may have either seen the burglary take place, or may have seen those responsible prior to – or just after – it occurred. A member of the public describes seeing two young men – possibly about 15 to 17 years of age – wearing dark-coloured clothing sat on the bench close to the shop just prior to the burglary.
‘We are keen to hear from them.’
