A WIFE has narrowly avoided jail after admitting stabbing her husband during a drunken binge.
Donella Forfar had been drinking at their home in Albany Road, Southsea, when the attack took place.
Forfar, 33, called the police herself and, when officers arrived, they found her sitting at a coffee table with the 14in kitchen knife.
At Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday, prosecutor Anthony Bailey said: ‘She immediately said to the police that she hated her husband, “I will kill him, you know it’s not my fault, he hits me”.
‘She went on to say she had had bad news that day.’
Her husband, who was in the flat, confirmed Forfar had been told that day her mother had cancer. He refused to co-operate with police and did not attend hospital.
Howard Barrington-Clark, defending, said his client was determined to tackle her drinking and the incident had been a ‘wake up call’.
She was given a six month prison sentence suspended for 12 months for actual bodily harm.
