A MAN broke into an elderly couple’s home and stole a purse containing up to £60 in cash.

Police have released an e-fit image of a suspect as they investigate the burglary.

The man entered the address on Mays Lane in Fareham between 10.45am and 11.10am on Wednesday, May 1.

When challenged by the 82-year-old woman who lives there, the burglar claimed he was visiting to help her husband with their car. This was later discovered to be untrue.

A light brown purse containing £50 to £60 in cash was reported stolen. The suspect was described as white, aged in his early 20s, 5ft 8ins tall, of an average build with short straight dark brown hair under a stiff-brimmed khaki hat. The suspect had a round ‘baby face’ with a swarthy, healthy complexion and brown eyes.

He also wore brown shoes and a dark green country jacket.
