RAIDERS smashed their way into a jewellery shop and made off with a valuable haul.

Police were called to Ernest Jones, in East Street, Chichester, shortly after 2.15am yesterday following 999 calls that the shop had been broken into.

It is believed three men smashed the window of the shop, stole jewellery and then ran off east along East Street before heading north into St Martins.

Officers are still assessing the value of the stolen goods.

Detective Inspector Jim McKnight, of West Sussex CID, said: ‘We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw three men acting suspiciously or three men leaving the area carrying a holdall.’

Anyone with information can call Sussex police on 101.
