A would-be robber who tried to stab a man is being hunted by police.

The 21-year-old victim was walking near St Bartholemew Gardens in Outram Road, Southsea, when another man demanded his wallet and threatened him with a knife.

He attempted to stab the victim, who managed to stop the attack.

The victim suffered an injury above his right hip, which was not life-threatening. The suspect fled towards Albert Road after the assault, which happened between 10.10pm and 10.20pm on June 26.

The suspect is white, between 18 and 21 years old, 6ft 2in and skinny with blisters and burns on his right hand. He wore a grey hooded top, a black tracksuit and a black balaclava. Call Det Insp Christopher Parry on 101.
