A SHOPLIFTER who assaulted a police officer has been spared jail.

Scott Humphreys, 23, of Middle Park Way, Leigh Park, admitted three thefts between October 24 and 29.

He fled Londis in Worldham Road, Havant, with £34.96 of goods.

He stole £4 cider from a deli in Cosham High Street and alcohol and cigarettes from a person in Spur Road, Cosham.

Humphreys also admitted assaulting a police officer at Havant bus station.

He was sentenced to 60 days in jail suspended for a year and put under supervision by Portsmouth magistrates. He must pay £53.55 compensation.
