PEOPLE in Hampshire are being urged to help fight crime with the click of a mouse.

Hampshire Constabulary is making all county residents aware of immobilise.com – a free website which enables the public to log their property details on a national database in order to increase the chances of stolen goods being identified and returned to the owner after a theft.

Police officers can access a secure portal to the site which allows them to search the database for details of any property they find or seize during criminal investigations.

In addition to assisting police with reuniting missing items with their rightful owners, it can also help officers prove specific items they find are stolen.

The Immobilise website can be used to log any electrical items which contain serial numbers, including laptops, sat navs and mobile phones – three items which are popular with thieves.

People can upload details and photographs of their jewellery, antiques and other items of value that don’t necessarily have unique code numbers linked to them.
