YOBS kicked and punched a man in an unprovoked attack.

The 53-year-old victim was walking in Gordon Road, Fareham, when a group of about four or five people assaulted him.

They left him lying in the road and fled towards Trinity Street following the attack, which happened at 7.40pm on Saturday.

The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment to cuts and bruises on his face and a suspected fractured eye socket.

Detective Constable Pete Lavin said: ‘This is a mindless, unprovoked act of violence committed by a group of thugs on a lone individual, that has left the victim with potentially serious injuries to his face.

‘We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the assault, or has any information about those who perpetrated it, to come forward as soon as possible.’

Police believe the main attacker is a woman aged in her mid 30s who wore a white headscarf.
