MAGISTRATES remanded a man in custody after he was charged with stealing 19 T-shirts worth £950.

Lee Benneyworth is alleged to have stolen the Fred Perry tops, worth £50 each, from JD Sports at Westbury Mall in Fareham in June.

The 28-year-old is also accused of stealing £500 of clothes from Beales department store in Winchester.

Benneyworth, of Leominster Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, did not enter any pleas to the two charges of theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates ruled the case was so serious it should be heard at the crown court.

Benneyworth will be back in court in November.
