A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester.
The 29-year-old man from the city has been arrested following the incident overnight between Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Police received a report from the hospital at 1.45pm yesterday that a female patient in her 20s had made an allegation to hospital staff of rape by a male healthcare worker at the hospital overnight.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Wardley-Wilkins from West Sussex CID said: ‘We are in the early stages of a full investigation.
‘Officers are continuing their enquiries and are receiving full cooperation from Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust.
‘The victim is receiving help and support from specially trained police officers.’
The man was arrested at around 9pm on Thursday evening and remains in custody where he is being interviewed.
A full investigation to clarify the circumstances is ongoing.
