THREE people have been arrested after four people broke a man’s door down and assaulted him.

A 39-year-old man, in St Vincent Road, Gosport answered his door to a man who said: ‘alright mate, is Steve there?’

The victim went to close the door after saying the man had the wrong address but three people in balaclavas turned up and forced the door open, taking it off its hinges.

All four then demanded money and attacked the man, leaving him with bruising.

It happened on Monday at 11pm.

Hampshire police say it is an isolated incident but want to hear from any witnesses.

The four then sped off in a dark-coloured BMW X4 and a silver Peugeot 206.

A witness said the cars almost crashed as they left.

Police say the man who knocked at the door was white, in his 30s, of medium built, around 5ft 8ins and had dark brown short hair.

He had a lot of stubble, which was well kept and shaped across his cheeks in sharp lines but it was not a beard.

He was wearing dark clothes and had a local accent.

The three other people were black and all wore balaclavas.

A 49-year-old man from Gosport, a 36-year-old woman from Fareham, and a 24-year-old man of no fixed address were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. They have all been bailed until June 24.
