A MAN was assaulted with a baseball bat in an attack outside a Portsmouth school.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the victim’s car was stopped and the driver and his vehicle targeted by a man and a woman.

The 35-year-old was left with cuts and bruises to his face and back, and his car had dents and windows smashed in the attack, which happened just after 3.30pm on Friday, March 20.

It happened in Allaway Avenue outside The Victory Primary School.

Police say that from CCTV, they know several other vehicles were in the area and were forced to stop while the attack took place.

In particular they like to speak to the driver of a grey Ford Transit van who then drove into the car park of the school.

And they would like to hear from the driver of a silver Jaguar who was in Allaway Avenue at the time.

The victim was driving a green Vauxhall Astra towards Porchester at the time when a dark grey Nissan Nivara overtook several other cars and then pulled in front of the Astra forcing it to stop.

A man with short strawberry blonde hair and a woman with straight shoulder length red hair then attacked the car and assaulted the driver by punching him and using the baseball bat.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call PC Sonia Judkins at the Custody Investigation team at Fratton Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

- A 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Portsmouth and known to the victim, have been arrested, questioned and have been released on bail until April 20.
