THE theft of a £1.99 bottle of lager from Lidl has cost a man £180.

Lawrence Leaver, 23, admitted stealing the alcohol from a Portsmouth branch of the supermarket on April 9.

He was fined £75 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs by Portsmouth magistrates.

Leaver admitted committing the crime while he was subject to a conditional discharge for an offence of causing harassment, alarm or distress.

However no action was taken on the breach.
