A PHONE call proved costly for a motorist who was made to pay £95.

Peter O’Neil was stopped by the police as he drove his Vauxhall Corsa in Norway Road, Hilsea, while talking on his mobile.

O’Neil, 49, of Elmwood Road, Hilsea, did not turn up to Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court but he was found guilty of the offence in his absence.

He was fined £50 with £45 in costs and ordered to take his licence to court within two weeks.
