A MAN has been charged with causing death by careless driving following a fatal crash near a roundabout.

Agris Pavlos, of Jessie Road, Southsea, was charged this afternoon and remanded in custody.

The 29-year-old is also accused of failing to provide a specimen to police following the crash, which happened at about 9.40pm on Sunday.

Pavlos is alleged to have been driving a BMW three series which flipped onto its roof at the junction of Western Road and Portsbridge roundabout in Portsmouth.

A 43-year-old man from Portsmouth who was a passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene

He has not yet been named by police.

A 24-year-old female passenger from Portsmouth suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was also treated at QA.

He is due to appear before Portsmouth magistrates tomorrow.

Meanwhile detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 101 quoting Operation Aramis.
