A MAN is due to appear in court today charged with attempting to rob a shop in Southsea.

Police have charged Matthew Timothy Perry, aged 26, of Albert Road, Southsea, with attempted robbery and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He is due to appear in Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court to face the charges.

It follows an incident at the ‘One Stop’ store in Highland Road, Southsea shortly after 10am on Tuesday night.

Police said they wanted to thank the shop’s staff and members of the public for helping with the investigation.
