POLICE have charged a man with rape.

Malachi Smith, of no fixed address, is alleged to have attacked a woman in Portsmouth in February.

The 22-year-old did not enter a plea to the charge of rape when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The woman cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Smith is also charged with failing to attend court for a hearing back in September.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court in February.
