POLICE have charged a man with five counts of rape.

Christopher Birch has pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Appearing before a judge at Portsmouth Crown Court, Birch also denied two charges of causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity.

Wearing a black jacket and trousers the 31-year-old spoke only to confirm his identity and enter the not guilty pleas.

The offences are alleged to have happened in Portsmouth and Waterlooville between 2004 and 2010.

Birch, of Walker Place, Gosport, was released on bail to stand trial in July.
