SINGLE dad Stephen Armstrong has been convicted of setting fire to a woman’s bed after she spurned his advances.

The 54-year-old, pictured, caused £21,000 worth of damage to Suzie Chesworth’s home in Waterlooville.

He was convicted of arson yesterday after a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Judge Sarah Munro QC remanded him in custody until August and warned him a prison sentence was inevitable.

Armstrong lived in the same building as the 24-year-old in London Road.

He got into her flat while she was out and started the fire on March 6 last year.

Prosecutor Richard Withey said he had started the blaze because he was upset that she was not interested in him.

Armstrong, of London Road, Waterlooville denied the offence but the jury took just an hour to find him guilty.
