POLICE have arrested a man following three separate assaults on women within 45 minutes.

The attacks happened yesterday morning between 6am and 7am in the area around Baffins Pond, in Copnor, and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At around 6am, a 56-year-old woman was approached by a man at the bus stop on Baffins Road. He grabbed her handbag, pushed her into a wall and ran off.

Then at 6.40am, a 40-year-old woman was grabbed by a man while she was jogging around Baffins Pond. She managed to break free and run to a nearby newsagent to call police.

Around five minutes later on Silchester Road, a woman was assaulted by a man who followed her into a house.

He pushed her to the floor but she managed to get up and the man ran off towards Baffins Pond.

Police searched the area and arrested a 22-year-old man on Tangier Road. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Mark Hall from Portsmouth CID said: ‘We believe all three incidents are linked.

‘None of the women was seriously injured but they are clearly distressed at what’s happened to them.’
