A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud after trading standards received complaints of substandard work being completed on boiler installations and repairs.

Police say some customers in Portsmouth are believed to have been charged a higher-than-average price for completed work. Cash was the only means of payment accepted as any other payment method was refused, they said.

Detective Sergeant Mark Hall said: ‘These are potentially serious incidents where people have been put at risk due to the substandard work.’

The arrested man, from Portsmouth, was held on suspicion of fraud and offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

He has been bailed until March 16.
