POLICE are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in a pub.

The 52-year-old victim was sitting in the patio area of the Clarence Gardens pub in Kingston Road, Portsmouth when he was attacked for no reason by another man.

Police say the victim suffered bruising and swelling to his head and minor cuts in the incident which took place between 5.30pm and 5.45pm on Sunday.

Details have only just been released.

Officers are now appealing for information to help catch the thug.

PC Nick Jackson said: ‘This appears to be a cowardly and unprovoked assault by a younger man on a decent hardworking man who was quietly enjoying a drink in his local pub.

‘The pub was busy at the time of the assault and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.’

Anyone with information should contact PC Jackson at Fratton police station on 0845 045 45 45 or by using the 101 number.
