A MAN has been jailed for assaulting a police officer.

Paul Stone, 38, of no fixed abode, had denied assaulting the officer in Chichester Road, North End, Portsmouth, on April 9.

However he was found guilty in his absence at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Stone admitted being in possession of a crowbar, gloves, a scarf and screwdriver for use in the course of or in connection with theft on the same day.

He was jailed for 56 days.
