A TEENAGER who stole a car shortly after he was banned from driving has been jailed.

Phillip Harfield stole a Ford Focus in Holbury Court, Havant.

The 18-year-old caused damage to the car after taking it, Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court heard.

At the time of the offence Harfield was banned from driving, having previously been convicted of taking a car.

On that occasion the court gave him a community order which he ignored.

Harfield, of Brockenhurst Avenue, Havant, pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and driving while disqualified when he appeared at court.

He admitted charges relating to a separate incident where he assaulted a woman and used threatening words and behaviour.

Harfield was sent to a young offenders’ institute for 102 days.
