A GANG of robbers punched and kicked a man in the head in a late-night robbery.

The 32-year-old victim was walking into Bush Street East in Southsea when he was approached from behind by up to six men.

He was punched to the ground, then punched and kicked in the head while he was on the pavement.

Two or three of the men then went through his pockets, stealing a UK passport, Chinese cigarettes, a mobile phone, loose change and £10 cash.

The gang then fled the scene of the robbery, which happened at about 1am on Saturday.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises in the attack.

Det Con Pete Bambury, investigating, is urging witnesses to come forward.

He said: ‘I am appealing for someone who may have seen the group responsible or found the victim’s passport.

‘A packet of Chinese cigarettes were also stolen.

‘If anyone has found or been offered these, please make contact with police as soon as possible.’

The gang wore sports clothing and hooded tops.
