CHAMPAGNE thief Paul Bailey has been spared jail.

Bailey, 47, of Duke Crescent, Portsmouth, admitted stealing £254.55 of Champagne and goods worth £1,262.49 in two separate thefts from Waitrose in Marmion Road, Southsea.

He admitted stealing £574 of computer games from Tesco in Shoreham, West Sussex, and using threatening behaviour twoards a man at Pizza Hut in Kingston Crescent, Portsmouth.

He pleaded guilty to committing the crime while subject to a 12-month conditional discharge.

Bailey was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail suspended for a year and told to take part in an alcohol treatment programme by magistrates.
