TWO men punched a man in the face in what appears to have been an unprovoked attack in a pub.

The assault happened at the White Hart pub in Stoke Road, Gosport on Sunday.

Police say at about 9pm, two men punched the 45-year-old man in the face.

It was initially thought the victim had suffered a fractured eye socket in the attack, but the 45-year-old was left with only cuts, bruises and swelling to his face.

A 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, both from Gosport, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The pair have been bailed by police until August 2.

Police say the attack appears to have been unprovoked.

Paramedics took the victim, who is also from Gosport, to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘The first person who called said he was unconscious but when we arrived he was conscious and breathing.

‘He was taken to hospital.’
