A PATIENT who sparked a huge search after failing to return to a psychiatric hospital from day release has been found.

Police say the 58-year-old woman, who has not been named, is safe and well.

Further details are yet to be released.

Police launched a search after the woman was reported missing from St James’s Hospital in Locksway Road, Milton, Portsmouth, yesterday.

She had been signed out on day release but did not return at 5pm as expected.

CCTV was checked, friends and family contacted and the RNLI was drafted in to help with the search, using flares over the sea off Eastney to look for her. A helicopter was also scrambled from Oxford to help in the search.
