SEARCH-and-rescue volunteers found an elderly man missing for two days – in a ditch.

Leslie Collins, 79, was discovered in Chichester suffering from hypothermia and was taken by ambulance to St Richard’s Hospital.

It followed a major search operation by Sussex Police using a helicopter, the voluntary Sussex Search and Rescue Team and members of the public.

Mr Collins, from Pulborough, went missing on Saturday and was found off Connolly Way, at 8pm on Monday.

PC Dan Johnson, from Sussex Police, said: ‘This was fantastic work by Sussex volunteers who had been searching for many hours, but had continued their work into darkness with this great result.’

Sussex Police has thanked those who had been looking out and spreading the word.
