A man who disappeared yesterday, sparking a police search, has been found safe and well.

Police search teams and dog units were out looking for George Elborough, known as Pat, aged 76, who is missing from his home in Petersfield yesterday afternoon.

They were particularly worried because Mr Elborough relies on an electrically-powered wheelchair to move around.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Mr Elborough was spotted by officers from British Transport Police boarding a train. It is thought he was heading back to Hampshire.

‘Local officers from Petersfield are now heading to London to collect him and bring him home, safe and well.

‘We would like to thank British Transport Police for their help on this investigation, and all of you who shared our appeal and helped spread the message overnight and this morning.

‘It is lovely to have a good outcome. Thank you all again.’
