TWO men arrested in connection with the rape of a young woman have been released without charge.

There was shock when historic Merchistoun Hall, in Portsmouth Road, Horndean, was cordoned off by police.

It followed an allegation that two men had raped a 23-year-old in the early hours of September 27.

Two men, aged 36 and 45 and both from Waterlooville, were arrested in connection with the suspected rape charge.

Both men were bailed until December 15 and then rebailed until January 11.

But both men were released without charge by Waterlooville police.

Merchistoun Hall is the home of Horndean Community Association and a busy venue hosting a range of classes for the whole community.

The historic hall is set in parkland.
