POLICE are owed thousands of rest days, it has been revealed.

Those serving in Hampshire police are owed 7,439 rest days, figures obtained under Freedom of Information law by Police Oracle have shown.

John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation, said: ‘If they have children, then they have to find child care provision – there is a financial impact on those officers.’

He added: ‘It is still an issue, and the demands on policing have never been greater, as the reductions in officer numbers has never been so large.’
