Officers used Taser 266 times and discharged it in 34 cases

TASERS have been used 266 times by police in the county.

Officers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight used the weapon but did not necessarily fire it. The weapon was only discharged 34 times.

Chairman of Hampshire Police Federation John Apter said: ‘These figures show that Taser is used in a proportionate way.’

He added: ‘I know of many cases where officers have been saved from serious injury because they have had access to Taser. Taser is an essential piece of equipment which keeps officers safe.’
