SUSSEX Police got a huge response when they opened a recruitment drive for police constables.

Some 1,440 people passed the initial phase of the recruitment process to fill 80 positions within the force.

They came forward when the web-based application window opened for the first time in four years for five days last week.

The recruitment page on the Sussex Police website was viewed on 19,706 occasions, with the information pack downloaded more than 14,200 times, marking an 35 per cent overall increase in traffic.

The male and female applicants will undertake six stages of recruitment, including written and role play exercises, interviews, a 20-week pre-joining course to complete in their own time and vetting.
