BANGLADESHI community members who fell victim to an alleged cash scam have been reassured by police that an investigation is still ongoing.

Around 300 people in Portsmouth have been affected by the alleged scam, which is said to have cost people thousands of pounds.

Golam Rashed Chowdhury, 26, and Farida Chowdhury, 28, both of Penhale Road in Fratton, have been charged with eight counts each of fraud by abuse of position.

A trial is likely to take place at the end of the summer at Winchester Crown Court.

Hampshire Police met with alleged victims at the Bangladesh Welfare Association centre, Bradford Road, Southsea, to update them on the case.

A letter will be distributed to all those affected to inform them of the latest developments.
