A PATIENT at a mental health hospital has admitted attacking a fellow patient.

Daniel Avis pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court via video-link yesterday.

But he denied a more serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 22-year-old assaulted Alex Witch at Ravenswood House, a mental health facility in Knowle, near Fareham, on October 18 last year.

Avis has since been moved from Ravenswood and is currently being held at Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire, which he gave as his address.

Judge Roger Hetherington adjourned the case until January 3.
