RESIDENTS were duped into giving cash to a man claiming to collect sponsorship money for a charity run.

Police are appealing for information after a suspicious charity collector and attempted burglary were reported on the same evening in Southsea.

Homes in the Rochester Road area were visited by a man claiming to be collecting sponsorship money on Saturday, June 21. Later a man was disturbed trying to get into a house.

A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and fraud by false representation. He is on police bail until July 21. Call 101.
