THE county’s police commissioner has said people charged with a crime should not be named.

Simon Hayes, Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner, said defendants should only be named when they appear in court – not when they are charged with a crime.

Hampshire police does not name people arrested but does name those charged.

It comes as Mr Hayes was cleared of a complaint alleging misconduct over expenses. He always denied wrongdoing.
