POLICE have charged a man following a spate of burglaries in Portsmouth.

Robert Spenceley is accused of breaking into a man’s house in Pembroke Road, Old Portsmouth, and stealing a 32in flat screen television and silverware.

The 20-year-old is also accused of breaking into two flats in one night at The Tower, Gunwharf Quays, on December 30.

Spenceley, of Edinburgh Road, Landport, Portsmouth, did not enter pleas to three charges of burglary and one of handling stolen goods when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates decided the charges were so serious they should go to the crown court.

Spenceley was remanded in custody until February 2 when his case will be sent to Portsmouth Crown Court.
