A MAN who stole a taxi and then collided with another car is being hunted by police.

The thief pounced after a taxi driver stopped his black Vauxhall Astra at Eastney Road, near the Glasgow Road junction in Eastney and left the vehicle unattended.

He climbed inside the vehicle and drove south along Eastney Road before turning right into Suffolk Road.

The car collided with a black Vauxhall Meriva in Eastney Road. The 39-year-old woman driver was unhurt.

The stolen taxi was later found parked in nearby Heyshott Road. The driver’s float and mobile phone were missing. The car’s front bumper had been damaged. The crime happened shortly before noon on June 27. Police have only just released details.

The thief is white, aged 25 to 30 and tanned. He wore a light coloured t-shirt and shorts. Call PC Dan Neligan on 101.
