Police are investigating after the body of a man has been found at a flat in Fareham.

The man’s death is being treated as suspicious after police were called to the flat on Valentine Close, just after 7am this morning.

Police say they are currently locating the 50-year-old homeless man’s next-of-kin.

Police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and high visibility patrols to reassure residents.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: ‘They were asking for witnesses and forensics are there, as well as a few CID. There are police all over the place.’

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Police were called to flats in Valentine Close, Fareham just after 7am today.

‘A man’s body was discovered and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, which is being treated as suspicious.’

Police said a further update would be made after the man’s next-of-kin had been informed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting Operation Connery.

A post mortem examination was due to take place at Royal Hampshire County hospital in Winchester this afternoon.
