APPLICATIONS for the county’s top cop job have been opened.

It comes as Andy Marsh is leaving Hampshire head to Avon and Somerset as that force’s new chief. Simon Hayes, Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner, is accepting applications for the £141,599-a-year starting salary chief constable post.

He said: ‘I’m looking for a modern chief constable, who understands the pressures placed on policing today.’

Job applications close on January 27 with interviews in late February and the candidate announced on March 11.

The role is a five-year fixed-term post.
