THE body of a man was recovered from a river.

It was found in the River Lavant near Tozer Way, off St Pancras in Chichester, at 11am yesterday.

Police cars, a fire engine and an ambulance were at the scene and the area was cordoned off with police tape.

The body was recovered from the river and all emergency services had left by 2.30pm.

Police have identified the man, who is aged in his 60s, and informed his next of kin.

Neighbours said they believed the man lived in a flat directly next to the river in Tozer Way and he worked as an orderly at the hospital.

Sussex Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem will take place to determine how he died and a report will be prepared for the coroner for West Sussex.
