A YOUNG moped rider had a lucky escape when she narrowly avoided riding into a wire held across a main road.
Abbie Danells was riding home from work along Havant Road, Bedhampton, at 8.15pm on Tuesday when she noticed a group of boys on both sides of the road.
As she got closer to them she realised they were holding a wire across the road and managed to stop just short of it.
The group then turned and headed towards her, shouting abuse, before she managed to get away.
The 19-year-old, from Bedhampton, said: ‘It was close to Farlington Parish Church.
‘I think they were holding it up for someone to drive into.
‘At first they wouldn’t let me pass and started shouting stuff.
‘They eventually backed off when they realised I was a girl and I got off straight away.’
Havant police are now hunting the culprits.
Spokesman Neil Miller said: ‘This was an extremely irresponsible and dangerous act that could have resulted in serious injury.’
Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
