A MAN is being quizzed on suspicion of attempted kidnap after a woman was attacked near a creek.
Detectives arrested the 23-year-old Fareham man at his home at 11am today.
He is being held in police custody.
Police launched an investigation involving more than 20 officers after the 38-year-old woman was assaulted on a footpath behind Watersmeet, Fareham Creek, at 4.20pm yesterday.
She had been walking along the path for about five minutes when she was grabbed by a man.
The woman had earphones in both ears and didn’t hear her attacker approach.
Following a struggle, the victim fell into a bush.
She kicked out at the man, who fled in the direction he came.
Detective Inspector Tara Williams, who is investigating the incident, said: ‘While the victim was physically unharmed, she was understandably very shaken by this incident.
‘We would like to hear from anybody who uses that area to contact us if they have seen anything suspicious.
‘We have more than 20 officers investigating this incident and working to identify the offender.
‘House-to-house inquiries have been made and we have increased police patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community. ‘
